GOLDEN WEDDING CELEBRATED
Former Mayor of Waihi, Owen Morgan and his wife, Rosemary, members of the Waihi Historical Society, celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary with family and friends at their Waihi home during the weekend of 10/11 February 1996.
Owen and Rosemary met in Palmerston North when Owen was in the Air Force. After their marriage they moved to Waihi for Owen's metallurgical business, which he set up next to their house. Rosemary, formerly a dental nurse, gave that up for motherhood and she and Owen became the parents of five children over the next fifteen years.
Owen was Mayor of Waihi from 1977 until 1989, when the former Borough of Waihi was amalgamated into the Hauraki District Council. They both admit that it was a busy but enjoyable time of their lives.
