The bottle was found at the Victoria Dam after a flood in April 1981. Probably it was put there by someone working there when the dam was being constructed. On one side of the river, there are large quantities of rock which was blown out to make a foundation for the dam, and dumped there. In the Cyclopedia of New Zealand it states that Mr John Anderson Brown moved to Waihi in 1891 and contracted to build large dams for the Waihi Goldmining Company. This being so, my bottle could be one hundred years old. It is the only bottle I have ever seen that has writing on three sides. Mr Goodwin of Omahu who has over 4,000 bottles, has seen many bottle collections but has never seen a bottle like it.
