Ohinemuri Regional History Journal 36, September 1992

It was no surprise to the people of Waihi when the town's well known former mayor was named in the Queen's New Year's Honours List (1992). Mr Morgan, had received numerous local tributes from the townspeople he had worked among and served as a community leader and whose personal traits helped to mould the tone and direction of Waihi for all those years. Mr Owen Morgan, a member of the Waihi Historical Society, was awarded the M.B.E. in recognition of his service to the Council and community. Mr Morgan was elected to the Council in 1950, the start of 40 years service. Details of Mr Morgan's career and achievements are recorded in Journal 34 (1990).[see Journal 34: Valedictory - E]

Mr Morgan, along with his wife, Rosemary, are still regarded as Waihi's leading citizens as they continue a wide range of involvement in the community, from drama and the arts through to community groups, conservation activities, and their patronages.
