To mark the centennial of Paeroa and the immediate district, the Paeroa Borough Council commissioned Mr. M. J. Cotter to write a book which reflects the nature of the event. The title indicates the transition from the gold era responsible for Paeroa's birth to its present character as the centre of a productive farming area.
