The first three photographs were made shortly after the modifications to the dam and water inlet arrangements which meant that it no longer stored water. This was to satisfy new resource consent conditions.
Walmsley Municipal Water Supply Dam, looking upstream. Spillway centre left, new water collection structure right foreground. 2002
Walmsley Municipal Water Supply Dam, looking from southern end. Middle foreground shows the spillway, with the remains of a hinged wooden weir designed to increase the height of the spillway, and thus increase the storage capacity of the dam. Above this the drainage controls, and very top the inlet structure (no longer in use). 2002
The remains of the wooden dam on the tributary to the Walmsley Stream. Visible mid picture is the bed log, mid to top left are two angled support beams, the top one has planking still attached. 2005.
The remains of the "plastic" dam, upstream of the wooden dam. The dam appears to have been constructed of plastic coated wire gabion baskets and black plastic sheeting. The white plastic pipe was the water uptake. 2005.
Remains of some of the concrete and wood piers which supported the old water main (pre 1967?). The nearest pier sports a sharp boat-like bow on its left-hand end, to allow floodwaters to pass. 2004.
Northern Waitete Municipal Water Supply dam, shortly after the dam had been cleared with a digger, looking from the east. Concrete dam still holding water in mid fore ground. 2005.
