LAWRENCE EDGAR (LAURIE) BEILBY
Laurie Beilby, mentioned in the article, "Edgar Beilby and the Paeroa Municipal Band", published in Journal 47, September 2003 [Journal 47: Paeroa Municipal Band - E], died at Thames on 19 June 2003 aged eighty-five years.
Laurie Beilby lived for his music but died before he was presented with an award recognising his seventy years of service to brass bands in New Zealand. He had served in bands in Waihi, Paeroa and Thames and in the Waiouru Military Band. During the Second World War he was stationed in Egypt and Italy, serving for four years.
Mr Beilby knew that the award was to be made and was proud of the recognition. The award was made to his wife, Gwenda, two days after his death, at a ceremony held in the Thames Citizen Band Hall.
