Eunice Brown died at Ohinemuri Home on 20 June 2003, aged one hundred and five years.
Eunice Whiting was born in Christchurch on 14 August 1897. She became a certificated pianist in 1913 and became a music teacher, moving first to Auckland and then to Gisborne where she married Jim Brown, a policeman, in 1922. Their early married life was spent near Gisborne, before shifting to Paeroa in 1940 where Mr Brown had become the local police constable.
Mrs Brown was in high demand as a pianoforte teacher, teaching from her home and at the Paeroa College. For many years she was the pianist for the Paeroa Ladies Choir and the organist at the Presbyterian Church. She was also a member of the C.W.I. and both Mr and Mrs Brown were members of the Paeroa Horticultural and the Caledonian Societies.
In 1990 the couple moved into Ohinemuri Home and Mr Brown died on 18 June 1993. Mrs Brown was the first resident to attain the age of one hundred years.
The Browns did not have any children.
