Mrs Mona Townshend (formerly Beattie) is the longest serving committee member of the Paeroa Historical Society. She joined the committee in 1968 and became Treasurer in 1969, a position in which she still serves. The task of treasurer, always a responsible position, has been particularly onerous at times when the Society has been involved in building and extending the Museum and the Society is grateful for her long and efficient service.

"This is how one gets on," jokes Mona Townshend as she demonstrates the penny-farthing bicycle on display at the Paeroa Museum. The bicycle is loaned to the museum by Mr John Hall, a brother of Judith Treanor. Formerly the property of their grandfather, who bought it in the 1890's, the bike is in mint condition and has its original tyres. He used it as a racing bike in later years.
