Mrs Harriett Green was born in Lincolnshire, England, in 1863. She studied nursing before her marriage to Arthur Green. They went to Australia in 1885 then came on to New Zealand a year later and settled at Omahu where they commenced farming. Mrs Green gave her services as a mid-wife to the surrounding settlers and following her husband's death after 25 years at Omahu, she continued hand milking the dairy cows. She was a member of the Puriri Women's Institute and a member of the Hikutaia Polo Club.

One of her daughters, Olive, married Robert Darrah and farmed at Wharepoa where later their daughter, Emma, married Dick Bax and also farmed there. Following her death in 1946 her two eldest sons, Wally and Bill continued farming at Omahu.
