Ohinemuri Regional History Journal 30, September 1986

Mr Tukukino's long service to the community was recognised in the Queen's New Years (1986) Honours when he was awarded the Order of the British Empire.

Having spent just about all his 78 years in the Hauraki area, Mr Tukukino is an Elder and a Paramount Chief of the Ngati Tamatera, which is the principal tribe of the Hauraki area. Mr Tukukino was born in Paeroa, educated there, and after periods of looking after the family's two farms, at Komata and Kaihere, he joined the Ministry of Works and Development where he rose to the position of Paeroa Residency Superintendent of Maintenance, when he retired in 1972.

He is at present on the Historic Places Trust Regional Committee, and many other organisations.

Prior to his latest recognition, Mr Tukukino was awarded the Coronation Medal for his war effort and the Jubilee Medal for his service to the Maori people.
