MR A.A. JENKINSON
This Karangahake Old Boy held important executive positions with the Council for 40 years. Born at Thames in 1903, he came, with his family, to the Rahu Road before he was a year old. Alf attended first the Mackaytown, and then the Karangahake Schools, completing his education at Thames High School. He was appointed Assistant County Clerk in 1919, and in 1932 was promoted to be County Clerk and Treasurer, a position which he filled with distinction for 32 years.
About 1899, Mr J.H. Adams Manager of the Woodstock Battery, was the proud possessor of a small English motor car. Despite its buggy-like construction, it was regarded as the acme of comfort. The owner, who did his own repairs, estimated running costs at 2c per mile. Its maximum speed was about 15 m.p.h.
