HISTORY OF MAN MADE "CAVE"
On Allan Scott's farm, Whangamata Road , Waihi.
Information from the late Pauline Williams (nee McClung ) Waihi Beach.
Andrew Scobie from Scotland, tunnelled out the rock face first to use as a home, like they did in Scotland.
Later it is said it became a cowshed and then turned into a hayshed.
Andrew Scobie was reported to have worked in the Martha Mine and knew how to use explosives.
Mrs Williams is recalling what her mother had told her as a child. Andrew Scobie being her grandfather.
In 1935 Peter Brady who owned a shop in Waihi, bought the farm and employed his son Charlie to manage it.
