In January 2000, three touring Bugatti cars called at Waihi, whilst travelling from Luxembourg to Christchurch to attend a rally there. Two of the vehicles were built in the 1920s and one was a new model. This was the support vehicle.
In the 1920s Bugatti was the leading name in the racing world. By chance, the Bugatti's stopover in Waihi coincided with the open day of Ken Hogg's private automobile collection and visitors had the opportunity to also see these rare Bugattis.
