CORRECTIONS & NOTES BY MR C W MALCOLM: In the interests of historical accuracy I wish to point out an error I made in my sketch map in page 15 of Journal 35, September 1991 [correction noted in the article: Off the Beaten Track, Journal 35 - E]. The railway line from Te Aroha should not be shown joining the line from Waihi where I have shown it. Both lines crossed the Te Aroha Road at separate level crossings and continued separately towards the bridge over the Ohinemuri River and the Paeroa Station.

Mr D W Dunlop whose last position was Secretary of the Auckland Education Board had a far more powerful position than the word "Secretary" might lead one to expect. It was later changed to "General Manager" and this was indeed what Mr Dunlop really was and he wielded very considerable influence over all the schools in the Auckland Province.
Mr A E Day was not, as stated, an Inspector for the Hawkes Bay Education Board but what was then known as an Organising Teacher whose task was to visit small country schoolsto advise their mostly young and inexperienced teachers in the organisation and managementof their schools.
