The Market Day held on Thursday 2 November 1989 was the 25th to be held in Paeroa. The first Market Day was held in 1965, a few days after the Guy Fawkes carnival. 1969 was the year that a replica of Captain Cook's ship was displayed in front of the Post Office on Market Day before continuing on its way to Whitianga for the Cook Bicentennial. The 1971 Market Day was another memorable occasion for that was when a special train of 12 carriages brought 750 people en route from Hamilton. A feature of the 1974 Market Day was the Karangahake Gold Camp's stage coach which gave rides around the Domain.
Over more recent years the idea of Market days has caught on in other centres so that support for Paeroa's "big day" from outside the community has gradually waned. The day is always enthusiastically supported by local shoppers, rewarding the efforts of the business community.
