BRUCE AND OTTO BUCHANAN

Bruce and Otto Buchanan, foundation members of the Paeroa Society, celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary on 25 March 1988.

Bruce, who had attended school in Paeroa and then worked on the family farm at Awaiti, met Otto Munro whilst she was visiting Paeroa. They were married in Dunedin at the Anderson's Bay Presbyterian Church. Following their marriage they made their home at Awaiti and raised a family of two boys and two girls.

Besides farm and family making for busy lives, Bruce and Otto found time to become involved in community affairs. They are staunch members of the Presbyterian Church and for 12 years Otto taught 'Sunday School' at Netherton. At times there were up to 80 children from all denominations in classes. Otto is a past member of the Thames Valley National Council of Women, the Paeroa Ladies Choir and the WDFF Netherton branch and has been a CWI member for 40 years. She is also a member of the Netherton Garden Circle and both are past members of the Paeroa District Choir.

Bruce was a member of the New Zealand Co-operative Dairy Co. Ltd's Paeroa 'factory committee', the Netherton School Committee, and during the war was a member of the Home Guard.
