OBITUARY
MRS. NORA DAY
Although her health in the last few years was not so good, Nora Day loved our outings and with her husband Bert's help was always one of the first to board the Bus. We loved to have her with us. Paeroa members send their deepest sympathy to Bert, his two daughters and two sons in their sad loss of one who had come to Paeroa from England in early 1920 to farm on Mill Road, so had seen many floods over the years. Mr. & Mrs. Day retired to live in Arney Street after selling their farm.
MISS T. C. BUCHANAN.
Society members learned with deep sorrow of the death of their loved member "Ena" as she was known to them. Ena born in Paeroa was a daughter of early Paeroa settlers, Mr and Ms George Buchanan who farmed at Netherton and later Waihi Road.
In her early years Ena worked in the Office of the late Mr Dick Carden and the New Zealand Dairy Company, Hamilton, later returning to Paeroa to live where she was active in the Presbyterian Church and the Ladies Bowling Club, but it was the Historical Society that was so interesting for her. Ena was a stupendous member being a member of the committee plus Secretary for many years.
The Society extend to her sisters and brothers, their deepest sympathy. She will be sadly missed at our meetings and outings.
MR. SIDNEY FRANK BARRON.
In the Editorial of Journal No. 25 mention was made of the illness of Mr. Barron who with his wife's help had produced our Journals. We regret the passing of Sid. and extend our sympathy to his wife Elaine and their daughter Anne. Elaine is continuing with the typing of the Journal, and the Society is most grateful for her assistance.
MR. STANLEY HEDGE.
We were sorry to learn of Stan's death in Tauranga on 17/5/1982. He was 85 years. He served in both World Wars and eventually became Commanding Officer of 6 Battalion (Hauraki) RNZIR.
Born in Waiuku, Lieutenant Colonel Hedge moved with his parents to Coromandel and Te Aroha. He operated a pharmacy in Paeroa for about 39 years, and also worked as an optician. The pharmacy now is owned by a nephew, Mr Anthony Wyllie.
Lieutenant Colonel Hedge's wife, Margaret died about 2 years ago.
