John Chalton 1833-1900. Baptised 5 Feb 1833. Note John died 27 December 1900, however his death often shows as 1901, possibly due to his death being registered in the new year.
John arrived in New Zealand aboard the Blue Jacket 16 March 1860. On Jane’s death certificate she is described as a “labourer’s wife”.
Married Jane Clark 1842-1879 1 May 1862. John and Jane had four children, two boys and two girls.
Jane was born in Nelson, NZ. (Note According to some family trees Jane was born in Hobart in 1844 this is incorrect).
The Clarks arrived in NZ aboard the Olympus in 1842. The Clarks then moved to Hobart, then returned to New Zealand around 1847, settling in south Auckland. Jane’s family, the Clarks lived at a farm called Seagrove, Waiau Pa, and Clarks Beach near Waiau Pa is named after them.
Jane died of cancer July 1879 age 37 years. Buried at Timaru, NZ.
Two of Jane's nephews died in WW1 in action.

Joseph Reynolds Clark 1874-1916. NZ Army serial number 8/3215. Wounded France, died of wounds. "died of wounds to head, arm and leg". June 1916, buried at, Bailleul Cemetery, France.
