Editor's Note: MRS. N. VAN der MEJDEN who gave outstanding service as Secretary resigned when her husband was appointed to a position on the Staff of the Auckland Museum and our very efficient Curator, Mrs. N.L. Martin has taken over the Secretaryship. Recently she was chosen to attend the first "School for Curators" held in Auckland to discuss problems with experts, who emphasised the importance of the smaller museums in helping to preserve and build up the picture of life as lived by succeeding generations. We shall be happy to publish Mrs.Martin's report in our next Journal.

REPORT FROM THE WAIHI HISTORICAL SOCIETY
On the second Monday of April the Society held its second Annual General Meeting and election of Officers. The President also presented his report on the previous year's activities and thanked members for the "unflagging interest and support which has contributed so much to a successful and happy year."
At the May meeting Mr. H. Armour, one of Waihi's older residents, gave a talk on Norway followed by memories of his boyhood in Waihi. This was followed in June by a presentation by Mr. Robert Nurdock of Hikutaia of colour slides showing types of Maori artifacts representing different stages in Maori culture. This was followed by black-board diagrams of various types of Maori pa formerly found in the region.
At the July meeting Mr.R.W. Lowry of Waihi Beach described early roads, railways and farming activities in the district.
Financial membership so far is 144. This includes two life members and 44 families.
