In September 1994 the Waihi Gazette reported that the Victoria Battery power sub-station restoration at Waikino was progressing quicker than expected, with many people from the Waihi and Waikino communities getting in behind the project. The roof of the power house had been replaced and barred windows installed. The machinery which was scattered around the battery site would be cleaned up and put on view in the power house. Late last year a 10 tonne ball mill was saved from being turned into scrap. The ball mill was used at the site in Waikino in the 1960s. Previously it had been taken to Thames and eventually sold to Price's foundry for scrap metal but was rescued and returned to Waikino.

The Victoria Battery Tramway Society was pleased to receive a donation of $981 from the Waihi Gold Mining Company, in May this year. This will enable the project of laying the track for the two foot gauge trains to proceed. Anyone interested in being involved in the work at the Battery site should contact Mr Jim Pilkington, 51 Consuls Street, Waihi.
