MRS. MARY WILLIAMS J.P.
for the past 12 years has been the only woman member of the Waihi Borough Council, being Chairman of the Library Committee, and for 24 years the Borough representative on the Thames Hospital Board. She has been in Waihi for 36 years, is a J.P. and a trade union delegate for Electrical Workers Union at Akrad where she works for Pye on T.V. sub-assembly, checking control panels - the intricate mechanism that enables us to adjust our television sets at the turn of a knob.
MR. TONY BARKER, B.A.
Our Contributor, MR. TONY BARKER, B.A. is a South Islander educated at Canterbury University, his main subject being History (in the wide sense), and this is also the subject which he teaches at Paeroa College, this being his third year on the staff. It is encouraging to us that a younger member of our community, although a new comer, takes such a lively interest in our local history.
MR. W. SNELGAR
was the youngest of a local farming family of 10 who lived first at Mackaytown and later at Paeroa and Wharepoa. He is the Office Manager for Provincial Transport having gained wide experience during his 20 years service, and is now responsible for the supervision of the Company's accounting and administrative departments.
MR. J. R. KIDD
is a veteran Golfer who still enjoys his game in his 80th year. He was Capt. 1935-1944, Vice- Pres. 1946 and Sec. 1950-1954.
MR. J. P. SINNETT
has spent his life in Paeroa where he has been a Borough Councillor for 13 years, his practical experience as a Builder being of great value. His knowledge of transport stems from his own early days and those of his father.
TREVOR WATT
was born in Paeroa and returned after living in Komata and Waitawheta where his people were farming. He and his brother, Roy established their progressive business here as "Radio & Electrical Sales & Service and Transformer Specialists". They also pioneered Television in Paeroa.
MR. A. BEASLEY, M.A.
retired in Auckland after a life time of teaching, first as a Pupil Teacher at Ponsonby and finally as Head Master there. After leaving Karangahake he was at Richmond Rd., Mt. Roskill, Newton Central, and Kowhai Intermediate. We commend his excellent memory!
DR. ROSS G. DREADON,
M.B.(N.Z.) F.R.A.C.P., M.R.C.P. (Lond.), D.C.H. (Eng.).practices in Auckland. His Grandfather - George Bull - owned a Battery erected at Thames in 1869, and his Mother spent her early years there. In 1966 Dr. Dreadon published a limited edition of a history of "Bulls Battery" a valuable factual record. We are indebted to him for this synopsis of the fascinating "Narrative of Edward Crewe", long since out of print.
