Our Societies were hosts in April to 80 members of the Auckland Society who journeyed in two buses over the week-end, 36 spending a night at Paeroa Hotels and 44 at Waihi. (This was ably pre-arranged by their Sec. Miss McCormick and Mrs. Kronfeld). On the Sat. evening they were entertained at the Waihi College Hall where a Movie-film of the Martha Mine and Waikino Battery was shown by Mr. Don Adams who had recently re-edited the film and also supplied an excellent commentary. During supper the Auckland President Mr. A.A. Smyth, M.A. expressed appreciation,
On Sun. morning all met at the Karangahake Picnic Area. (Speakers Mrs. N. Climie and Mr. J. Cotter). The buses proceeded to Waihi with guides (Miss P. Clark, and Mr. T. Gordon), stops being made at Owharoa and Waikino. The tour included points of interest in Waihi, the viewing of exhibits at the Museum and lunch at the Art Centre. The visitors then left for Paeroa where talks were given by Mr. R.J. Hughes and Mr. Phil Jones who displayed some wonderful enlargements of old photographs of Karangahake. Afternoon tea completed the visit during which it was a great pleasure to meet many old friends as well as to make new ones.
