During October 2002 the land surrounding the L & P bottle icon adjacent to the Criterion Bridge in Paeroa was cleared to make way for the development of a new park. The 6.5 metre high bottle, now thirty-three years old, was moved on Tuesday, 12 November 2002 to a position further back from the highway.
Landscaping involved the planting of lemon trees and magnolias. A large parking area with a bus bay has been included, together with paving and seating. The paved area includes a mosaic of a cut lemon, marking the best spot from which to take photographs. Running from the lemon mosaic are metal disks of various sizes, depicting bubbles. Information panels tell the story of Lemon and Paeroa and the rubbish bin is in the shape of a lemon. A footpath (envisaged to be the start of a walkway along the Ohinemuri River) leads over the stopbank and under the Criterion Bridge, emerging on the southern side to rejoin the pathway near the Criterion Hotel.
The redeveloped park, nicknamed "Bottle Park" has officially been named Ohinemuri Park.
