Walmsley Dam

The first three photographs were made shortly after the modifications to the dam and water inlet arrangements which meant that it no longer stored water. This was to satisfy new resource consent conditions.

Cast iron water pipes

The cast iron water pipe brought water from the wooden dam to the main supply pipe.

It is exposed here where it crosses the main Walmsley Stream, just below the main dam. 2005.

The remains of the "plastic" dam, upstream of the wooden dam. The dam appears to have been constructed of plastic coated wire gabion baskets and black plastic sheeting. The white plastic pipe was the water uptake. 2005.

Remains of some of the concrete and wood piers which supported the old water main (pre 1967?). The nearest pier sports a sharp boat-like bow on its left-hand end, to allow floodwaters to pass. 2004.
