Ruth Ordish: GIS

The GIS showing features around the greater Waihi area is just brilliant!  Fascinating to see past activities summarised and located in our environment.  Thanks for all your effort in providing this.

Jennifer Cochrane: Waitekauri Battery

Your new website is fantastic!! Thank you!

We live on Waitekauri Road and are very keen to source images of things in this general area eg: Maoriland Battery, Jubilee Battery, Waitekauri Township, any old posters/ circulars .

We are developing visitor accomodation on our property and would like to develop a photo board of old images. I am restoring an old wooden window that could be used to display them in.

On our property is an old gold mine and the remnants of a dam.

Can you help or point me in the right direction?

Thank you

Mary Carmine: Waihi Street Names

Just a couple of comments regarding street names. Roland Pl was originally part of Bradford St but as it did not connect with the rest of Bradford St it was renamed and called Roland because that was one of Bradford's Christian names. I doubt if Spence Rd was named after Spencer Dean as his name was Spencer not Spence. There was a Spence family living in the Waihi area - don't know much about them but maybe they had a farm there. Worth some investigation.

Any other suggestions?

Andrew Chalton: Naming of Netherton

I recently came across the below article.

Samuel Chalton is my great, great grandfather. According to family history his family came from Netherton in the north of England and he owned a farm named Netherton in England.

When he came to NZ and established a farm in what is now Netherton, he named the farm the same (presumably for nostalgic reasons). His farm Netherton was a postal agency for some time which is why the name was adopted.

Ruth: your website content

I am delighted to see more material being added regularly... particularly under the Research tab.... what a wonderful resource for the locals and for visitors... I am getting to know more about the background of this community and area in which I live.  Thank you.
